Is a mobile sauna business profitable?
It can be, when the site works and the operator works. As a benchmark, a sauna earns around £10,000 per seat a year, so a single unit might range from roughly £45,000 to £200,000+ depending on capacity, location and hours, but that's a planning figure, not a promise. Many operators recover their build cost within a year or two; others take longer. It is a hands-on business with real hours and seasonality, not passive income.
Do you need planning permission for a mobile sauna?
Usually not for a mobile unit, which counts as a temporary movable structure. Fixed garden cabins often fall under permitted development, but commercial or coastal sites can need permission. Always check with your local council first.
How long does it take to launch a sauna business?
A Sauna Box build typically takes 8–16 weeks. Once you are set up, most operators take their first paid bookings within 2–4 weeks of going live.
Do you need a licence to run a sauna business?
There is no single "sauna licence", but some councils require a special treatments licence, and you will need appropriate insurance and health-and-safety compliance. Requirements vary by council, so check locally.
How many bookings do you need to break even?
A single unit with about £300/month running costs covers those with only a handful of sessions a week. To pay back a build in the £33,000–£30,000 range, most operators need roughly 15–20 bookings a week as a benchmark; the busiest sites beat that comfortably, others take longer, depending on the site and how hands-on the operator is.
